Electric car sales leap in U.S.

According to the latest statistics, the electric car sales in the United States keep growing by leaps and bounds. July was no exception. Nissan and Chevrolet set the record here. The Japanese manufacturer made about 3,000 units of the Nissan Leaf, while General Motors’ Chevrolet Division manufactured 2,000 Chevrolet Volt vehicles.
This monthly indicator has been able to exceed the number of 5,000 units only twice in its history. The first hike was logged in August 2013 with about 5,771 vehicles sold; the second spurt was scored this July.
Nissan was the first one that reported the increase selling 3,019 cars, thus boosting the yearly reading to 15,775. Nevertheless, the Japanese carmaker has topped the 3,000 mark not for the first time. In May, the indicator posted 3,117. This year was really fruitful for Nissan, as the sales jumped 62% in average compared to last year.
The fastest growth was registered in the north-eastern part of the United States due to tax incentives for Massachusetts and Maryland.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet tries not to lag behind and sold 2,020 electric cars. Thus, the company manufactured 10,635 units in January-July.
The sales ‘rivalry’ between Chevrolet and Nissan has started in 2010. But American consumers seem to prefer Leaf to Volt.
Tesla, another huge electric cars manufacturer, does not reveal its neither monthly nor quarterly reports on sales. Nevertheless, experts estimated that the company made about 1,200 unites of Model S.
Besides, the hybrid cars by Toyota and Ford win the widespread popularity too. About 1,371 Americans opted for Toyota Prius. The number of Fusion Energi и C-Max Energi sold has not been assessed yet.
