Taiwan consumer price inflation eased for the first time in five months in November, data released by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics showed on Wednesday.
The consumer price index, or CPI, rose 2.90 percent year-on-year in November, slower than the 3.05 percent rise in October, which was the highest rate of inflation in fifteen months. Economists had forecast inflation to ease to 2.80 percent.
Costs for transportation and communication increased at a slower rate of 1.18 percent annually in November versus a 1.64 percent gain a month ago.
The annual price growth in clothing moderated to 1.03 percent from 1.71 percent.
Meanwhile, food prices alone grew 5.63 percent annually in November, and health costs were 3.05 percent higher.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.28 percent in November.
