The US Department of Commerce reported that there was no change in December for new orders for U.S. manufactured durable goods. This came as a surprise as these orders are expectedly consistent.
In the report, it was indicated that orders for durable goods remained the same in December, following an upwardly revised surge of 5.5% in November. Economists had anticipated a 1.1% increase in durable goods orders in comparison to the November spike, which had been reported at 5.4%.
If you exclude orders for transportation equipment, you'd note that orders for durable goods in December increased by 0.6%, following the 0.5% rise in November. An increase of 0.2% was the expectation for ex-transportation orders.
