Spain Producer Prices Fall At Slowest Pace In 8 Months

Thursday's data from the statistical office INE reveals that the rate at which Spain's producer prices have been falling has slowed for the eighth month in a row, marking a decrease of 6.3 percent in December, compared to a 7.6 percent drop in November. This is the slowest rate of decline since April of the previous year.

Analysis indicates that the lessening in the overall drop of producer prices is largely due to a decrease in energy prices by 20.6 percent. Additionally, the prices of intermediate goods have dropped by nearly 5 percent.

Conversely, the price of consumer goods has risen 6.7 percent and capital goods have seen a 2.7 percent increase. Producer price inflation, when energy is not factored in, has risen by a small margin from 0.9 percent to 1.1 percent in the previous month.

On the other hand, from month-to-month, producer prices have fallen at a less rapid pace, with a decrease of 0.3 percent in December, compared to a steeper 2.2 percent drop in November.
