Finland Jobless Rate Rises To 7.1%

The unemployment rate in Finland has gone up for the second consecutive month in December, according to data released by Statistics Finland. The unemployment rate for individuals between the ages of 15 and 64 escalated to 7.1% in December, up from 6.9 % in November. During the same period the previous year, the figure stood at 6.8%.

The number of jobless individuals expanded from 186,000 in November to 193,000 in December. However, there was a dip in the youth unemployment rate which applies to ages between 15 and 24, as it went down from 13.4% in November to 12.5% in December. While the unemployment rate trend for the age group 15-74 was marked at 7.1% in December.

The data also revealed a minor increase in the employment rate; it moved up to 72.5% in December from 72.4% the preceding month. Over the year 2023, the trend for the unemployment rate for those aged 15-74 has been recorded at 7.2%, compared to 6.8% in 2022.
