Toyota Industries: Investigation Committee Confirms Irregularities Of Certification Regulations

An inquiry into potential discrepancies in certification regulations, carried out by a specialized investigative committee, revealed irregularities in the horsepower output testing of three diesel engine models for automobiles. These tests were commissioned by Toyota Motor Corporation and executed by Toyota Industries Corporation.

On account of these findings, Toyota Industries Corporation chose to momentarily halt the shipment of the affected engines. Correspondingly, Toyota Motor Corporation suspended the delivery of vehicles that contain these potentially flawed engines. Despite this, Toyota assures consumers that there is no cause for concern regarding the use of vehicles with these engines, as they meet the necessary engine performance output standards.

According to the committee's findings, the certification tests measured the horsepower output of the engines using Engine Control Units (ECUs) with software different from that used in mass production units. This software was chosen to yield smoother results with less variation. Interestingly, the report mentioned that ten global vehicle models, including six in Japan, currently operate using the affected engines.
