SAP Proposes Pekka Ala-Pietila As Supervisory Board Chairman

SAP SE has announced its supervisory board's nomination of Pekka Ala-Pietila for election as a new supervisory board member, and as the intended successor to Chairman Hasso Plattner. Ala-Pietila is set to stand for election for a two-year term at the upcoming Annual General Meeting. If elected, he will assume the role of chairperson.

It has been mutually agreed upon between SAP and Punit Renjen to separate paths due to differing views on the responsibilities of the SAP Supervisory Board chair, a role that was initially designated to Punit Renjen. Renjen has decided to resign from his role on the SAP Supervisory Board at the conclusion of SAP's Annual General Meeting on May 15, 2024, as stated in an official SAP statement.

In the past, Ala-Pietila, who is 67, has held the role of President at Nokia Corporation between 1999 and 2005 and was a member of the SAP Supervisory Board between 2002 and 2021. His experience also includes chairing the EU Commission's High-Level Expert Group on Artificial Intelligence from 2018 to 2020 and leading Finland's Artificial Intelligence Program from 2017 to 2019. Currently, he holds positions on several European corporate boards, including the role of Chairman of the Supervisory Board at the Dutch multinational location intelligence firm, HERE Technologies.
