Galiano Gold Inc. (Stock Symbols: GAU, GAU.TO) announced a disturbing incident at the Asanko Gold Mine on March 2, 2024. The mine, which is a joint venture with Gold Fields Limited, witnessed a tense altercation between illegal miners and the hired security officers near the Tontokrom township. Sadly, two security officers and a civilian lost their lives in this unfortunate incident.
Despite this tragic occurrence, the operational rhythm at the Asanko Gold Mine has not been disrupted. Both the processing plant and the mining leases positioned towards the south continue to function as normal.
Investigations regarding this incident are currently underway. Galiano is actively collaborating with the law enforcement agencies and the relevant authorities to ensure and prioritize the safety of its employees, as well as the surrounding community.
