Official data has shown a slight rise in Eurozone retail sales in January, driven by food and auto fuel transactions. In contrast to a 0.6% decline in December, January saw a modest 0.1% increase in retail sales, which was in alignment with economic predictions.
The subdivisions showed varied results. Sales of food, beverages, and tobacco grew by 1.0%, while non-food product sales decreased by 0.2%. Automotive fuel sales in dedicated stores experienced more rapid growth, with an increase of 1.7% following a rise of 0.5% in the preceding month.
Year on year, the retail sales volume decline doubled to 1.0% from 0.5% the previous December, although experts had predicted a more significant fall of 1.3%.
In the EU, although January saw a 0.3% monthly increase in retail sales, there was a year-on-year decrease of 0.6% compared to the same period in the previous year.
