Meta Offers To Reduce Facebook, Instagram Fees In Europe

Meta Platforms has proposed a significant reduction, almost by half, in its monthly subscription charges for Facebook and Instagram in Europe. This comes in the wake of dialogues with privacy regulators, according to sources.

The technology giant is poised to decrease the monthly fee from 9.99 euros to 5.99 euros for its no-ads subscription service. This service, introduced in Europe this past November, was initially priced at 9.99 euros per month.

During a hearing by the European Commission, Meta's legal counsel, Tim Lamb, stated, "We have desired to expedite this process for a while as we strive to achieve a consistently steady state. Therefore, we've proposed reducing the price from 9.99 euros to 5.99 euros for a single account and to 4 euros for any subsequent accounts."

Meta rolled out the service in response to the Digital Markets Act, which limits its capability to customize ads for users without obtaining their permission.
