Candel's CAN-2409 Shows Positive Trial Results In Non-Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer; Stock Up

Candel Therapeutics, Inc., a company prominent in the biopharmaceutical industry, recently revealed encouraging interim survival data from their ongoing phase 2 clinical trial of CAN-2409, specifically for the treatment of non-metastatic pancreatic cancer. This news caused a significant surge in the company's shares on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, with a 34% increase to $2.25.

The updated data stems from the continuous phase 2 CAN-2409 clinical trial, which involved the use of valacyclovir (a prodrug), in combination with standard chemoradiation care. This combination was then followed by a resection for borderline resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, also known as PDAC.

Having been monitored closely for an additional eight months since the first analysis, this recent update was presented at the 2023 Society for Immunotherapy Annual Meeting. Following the impressive results presented there, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) later granted Fast Track Designation to the CAN-2409 and valacyclovir combination in December 2023 for the treatment of patients suffering from PDAC.

Expressing the company's excitement over the promising interim results, Candel's Chief Medical Officer, Garrett Nichols, highlighted the improved survival attributed to CAN-2409. He stated that the results, which showed the drug to be generally well-tolerated with no significant local or systemic toxicity when added to standard chemoradiation, reinforced its durability.
