The Italian statistics agency ISTAT released data on Thursday showing a significant ongoing decrease in the country's producer prices in March. The figures reveal a year-on-year fall of 9.6 percent, following a 10.8 percent decrease in February. This trend of declining producer prices has been in place since April 2023.
The sharp drop in March was primarily due to a 28.1 percent reduction in energy costs. Furthermore, intermediate goods were marked 5.6 percent cheaper. Domestically, prices declined by 12.7 percent, while there was a 1.2 percent fall in prices on foreign markets.
March also recorded a 0.2 percent monthly dip in producer prices, following a 1.0 percent decrease the previous month. This represents the fifth consecutive month of declines.
