Black & Decker (U.S.) Inc., headquartered in Towson, Maryland, has initiated a recall of approximately 44,400 units of its Craftsman V20 Cordless Tillers/Cultivators due to potential laceration hazards, as announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recall pertains to the CRAFTSMAN Model CMCTL320B V20 Cordless Tillers/Cultivators, distinguished by their red and black colors and UPC number 885911843430.
These products, which were manufactured in China, were distributed through Lowe's, Ace Hardware, Blain's Farm & Fleet stores nationwide, certain Army & Air Force Exchanges, and sold online via Amazon.com from October 2022 through April 2024, with prices ranging from $129 to $179.
The issue arises from potentially incorrect assembly instructions, which may lead consumers to attach the bottom portion of the tiller/cultivator upside down. This incorrect assembly could result in the tines rotating toward the user, posing a laceration risk.
The recall follows a report received by the company regarding the incorrect attachment of the bottom portion of the unit. However, there have been no injuries associated with the recalled products thus far.
Consumers are advised to immediately cease using the affected tillers/cultivators and to contact CRAFTSMAN for revised assembly instructions that correctly illustrate how to attach the bottom portion of the tillers/cultivators.
In a similar recent recall, DR Power Equipment, based in South Burlington, Vermont, recalled approximately 57,200 units of Walk-Behind Leaf Blowers and Vacuums, as well as Tow-Behind Leaf Vacuums in early May due to laceration risks. This recall followed 22 reports of loose pieces being ejected from the units.
