Germany's import prices experienced a less pronounced decline in the ongoing trend that began in March 2023, according to data released by Destatis on Friday.

In April, import prices fell by 1.7 percent compared to the same month the previous year, a slower drop than the 3.6 percent decrease recorded in March. The anticipated decline was 1.8 percent.

The data indicated a moderation in the decline of energy import prices, which eased to 7.0 percent in April from 15.1 percent in March.

Prices of imported intermediate goods saw a reduction of 4.1 percent, compared to a 5.9 percent decrease in the previous month.

Conversely, prices for imported agricultural products increased by 1.7 percent, while those for consumer goods rose by 1.5 percent. Prices for capital goods were also up by 0.3 percent from last year.

On a month-to-month basis, import prices rose by 0.7 percent, following a 0.4 percent increase in the prior month.

The data also revealed that export prices registered an annual decline of 0.2 percent after a 1.0 percent drop in March. Meanwhile, the monthly increase in export prices accelerated to 0.4 percent from 0.1 percent.
