Google News, Other Services Suffer Temporary Outage Worldwide

On Friday morning, services like Google News, Google Discover, and others experienced temporary outages on both desktop and mobile platforms, including iOS and Android apps.

The first outage reports emerged at 7:59 a.m. ET, as users encountered error messages stating, "Uh-oh! Something went wrong. Please try again," while attempting to access these services.

According to DownDetector, an online outage tracking website, over 1,000 reports regarding disruptions in Google News and Google Trends were recorded globally by 9 a.m. ET. Specifically, 70 percent of users reported issues with accessing the Google website, 28 percent faced problems with Google Search, and 2 percent encountered issues with Google Maps.

Google promptly confirmed that they had identified an "ongoing issue with serving some features in Google Search."

Additionally, the company addressed the situation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the outage had affected "some results on Google News, Discover, and other products, for those inquiring about specific services."

By noon, Google assured users that "the issue has now been resolved."
