Meta Platforms (META) is rolling out noteworthy enhancements to WhatsApp’s video call functionality, aiming to reposition the app as a viable competitor to established video conferencing services.
In a recent blog post, the company announced several new features. Among them is the “speaker spotlight” functionality, which automatically highlights and brings the active speaker to the forefront of the screen.
Another significant update is the “screen sharing with audio” feature, allowing users to share their screens along with accompanying audio, providing a richer collaborative experience.
Moreover, WhatsApp users can now host video calls with up to 32 participants across all devices. This marks a substantial improvement from the previous limits, which capped video calls at 16 participants on the Windows app and eight on the Mac app, as reported by The Verge.
In its blog post, Meta also reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the quality of audio and video calls on WhatsApp. These new features are slated for release "over the next few weeks," according to the company.
