Fisher-Price Inc., a subsidiary of Mattel, Inc. based in New York, has issued a recall for approximately 366,200 units of the Dumbbell toy included in the Baby Biceps Gift Set due to a potential choking hazard, as reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. An additional 37,850 units were recalled in Canada.
This recall pertains to the plastic dumbbell toy included in the Fisher-Price Baby Biceps Gift Set, specifically model number GJD49. The toy features a gray bar with orange and red plastic weights on either end.
Manufactured in China and Vietnam, these products were distributed through various retail stores including Walmart, Kohl’s, Fred Meyer, Hobby Lobby, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Buy Buy Baby, and Target. They were also available for purchase online through platforms such as Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Zulily.com, Target.com, and other websites. The product was sold from April 2020 to August 2024, retailing at approximately $18 for the gift set.
The safety concern arises from the gray caps on the ends of the dumbbell toy, which can detach and pose a choking risk to infants. This recall followed seven reports from U.S. consumers regarding the caps coming off, though no injuries have been reported to date.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled dumbbell toy immediately, keep it out of reach of young children, and contact Fisher-Price to arrange for a refund.
In a related context, there have been other recent recalls involving children's products. Shawshank LEDz recalled about 9,600 units of Squeeze Plush Ball Monsters Toys and Easter Squeezable Toys in mid-August due to injury risks. Additionally, in early August, Attom Tech recalled approximately 4,100 units of LED light-up jelly ring toys containing button cell batteries due to the risk of ingestion.
