European Shares Inch Higher Before Key Inflation Readings

European stocks saw a rise on Monday as investors anticipated upcoming consumer price inflation data from Germany, Spain, and France expected later in the week.

The European Central Bank's Governing Council is scheduled to meet on Thursday, and it is widely anticipated that they will reduce interest rates for the second time this year.

In the United States, the Labour Department is set to release the consumer price index on Wednesday and the producer price index before the markets open on Thursday. Tame readings from these reports could provide policymakers with justification to execute a 50-basis point rate cut on September 18.

In other developments, the Eurozone's Sentix Investor Confidence Index dropped from -13.9 in August to -15.4 in September, as per the latest survey released today.

Investors also largely disregarded a separate survey indicating a noticeable cooling in Britain's labor market last month.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index rose by 0.7% to reach 510.31, rebounding from a 1.1% drop on Friday, which marked its worst day since early August. Germany's DAX, France's CAC 40, and the U.K.'s FTSE 100 all increased by around 0.7%.

In the mining sector, shares of Anglo American, Antofagasta, and Glencore gained between 1% and 2%. Energy giant BP Plc saw a 0.5% rise, while peer Shell added 0.8%.

Entain surged by 8.2% after the gambling group announced that its online business in the U.K. and Ireland had returned to growth earlier than expected.

Housebuilder Barratt Developments climbed by 1%, and lender Lloyds Banking Group advanced by 1.6% following their announcement of a £150 million joint venture with the government body, Homes England.

Conversely, German sportswear company Adidas AG fell by 4% after Barclays downgraded its stock rating from "overweight" to "equal weight."
