German Ifo Business Confidence At 8-Month Low

### German Business Sentiment Hits Eight-Month Low in September

The German business sentiment has continued its downward trajectory, reaching its lowest point in eight months this September. This decline suggests that the economy may be edging closer to a recession, according to the latest survey results from the ifo Institute, released on Tuesday.

The business confidence index dropped more than anticipated, falling to 85.4 in September from 86.6 in August. Economists had forecasted a figure of 86.1. This marks the fourth consecutive month of decline and the lowest score since January.

"The German economy is coming under ever-increasing pressure," stated Clemens Fuest, President of the ifo Institute.

Survey respondents expressed increased dissatisfaction with their current business situation, accompanied by a deteriorating outlook for the forthcoming months.

The current situation index plummeted to 84.4, down from 86.4 in the prior month, far below the forecast of 86.1. The expectations indicator also fell, landing at 86.3 as anticipated, compared to 86.8 in August.

In the manufacturing sector, the business climate index hit its lowest level since June 2020. Companies reported a significantly poorer current situation and expressed heightened pessimism about future expectations. The survey revealed an intensified lack of orders, with core industry sectors facing substantial struggles.

The services sector also experienced a decline in business climate this September. Companies showed considerable dissatisfaction with their current situations, although expectations for the future appeared somewhat less negative.

In the trade sector, business confidence continued to weaken. The outlook for the upcoming months was marked by growing skepticism, while traders' assessments of their current situations also worsened slightly.

Conversely, the construction sector saw an improvement in business confidence. This was largely due to a reduction in pessimistic expectations, although companies remained somewhat dissatisfied with their present business conditions.

By adhering to this revised structure, the core information and the significance of the survey's findings have been preserved, while improving clarity and professionalism in presenting the economic insights.
