BAE Systems has secured a $177.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy for the maintenance and modernization of the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, USS Halsey (DDG 97).
This contract, initially awarded as an undefinitized contract, could amount to $225.5 million if all options are exercised. Under the terms of the Depot Maintenance Period contract, BAE Systems' San Diego shipyard will undertake a comprehensive dry-docking of the 509.5-foot vessel. The scope of work includes underwater hull preservation, upgrading the ship's Aegis combat system with the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (Block 3), enhancing command-and-control systems, and refurbishing the living quarters for the crew of 260. The project is slated to begin later this month and will extend into 2026.
"This type of deep-level sustainment work is essential to ensure the combat effectiveness of the USS Halsey," said Eric Icke, Vice President and General Manager of BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair. "Our team in San Diego is fully prepared to execute the assigned DMP tasks, which will enable the Halsey to advance to its next phase of fleet readiness."
