John Deere Recalls 165K Compact Utility Tractors

Deere & Co., headquartered in Moline, Illinois, is recalling approximately 147,900 units of its Compact Utility Tractors due to a potential crash risk, as reported by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Additionally, about 16,800 units were sold in Canada.

The recall includes John Deere models 1023E, 1025R, and 2025R Compact Utility Tractors, available in the trademark green and yellow colors. These models were distributed with both open and closed operator stations.

Manufactured in the United States, the tractors were sold through authorized John Deere dealerships nationwide from November 2017 to July 2024, with prices ranging between $12,700 and $21,000.

The recall was triggered by a defect where the front bell crank in the brake linkage can fail, causing the tractor to lose braking capability and posing a crash hazard. The company has received four reports of brake linkage malfunctions, which included one incident leading to hospitalization, two impact-related injuries, and minor property damage.

Consumers are advised to immediately cease using the recalled tractors and contact an authorized John Deere dealer to arrange a free repair.

This recall follows several other high-profile product recalls. In mid-August, Stanley Black & Decker Inc. recalled approximately 46,200 units of DeWALT Battery Walk-Behind Mowers due to a laceration hazard. Earlier in August, ECHO Inc., based in Lake Zurich, Illinois, recalled about 3,900 units of its gas-powered backpack blowers because of a fuel line leak that posed a fire hazard.
