Japan Retail Sales Climb 0.8% In August

In August, Japan's retail sales saw a seasonally adjusted monthly increase of 0.8 percent, reaching a total value of 13.772 trillion yen, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This marks an improvement from the 0.2 percent rise in July and 0.6 percent increase in June.

On an annual basis, retail sales grew by 2.8 percent, surpassing forecasts of 2.6 percent and improving from the 2.7 percent growth recorded in the previous month.

In contrast, commercial sales experienced a monthly decline of 2.0 percent but increased by 2.0 percent year-on-year, totaling 49.081 trillion yen. Wholesale sales also fell by 2.6 percent on a monthly basis while rising 1.7 percent annually, amounting to 35.308 trillion yen.
