In September, China's manufacturing sector continued to contract, although at a reduced rate. According to the latest survey by the National Bureau of Statistics, the manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) registered a score of 49.8. This figure surpassed the anticipated score of 49.4 and showed an improvement from August's 49.1. However, it still falls below the critical threshold of 50, which demarcates expansion from contraction.
Meanwhile, the non-manufacturing PMI hit exactly 50.0, which was below the forecasted 50.4 and a slight decrease from the previous month's 50.3.
The composite PMI, which combines both manufacturing and non-manufacturing indices, stood at 50.4, marking an increase from 50.1 in August.
