Rheinmetall AG, a prominent German manufacturer of arms and ammunition, has announced a memorandum of understanding with U.S. industrial company Honeywell to collaborate on the development of advanced visual systems and auxiliary power units for vehicles.
Additionally, Rheinmetall has secured a significant contract from Denmark's armed forces. Valued in the low three-digit million euro range, this order includes sixteen Skyranger 30 air defense turrets and accompanying equipment for integration into 8x8 tactical vehicles. The contract also encompasses the delivery of ammunition worth a low double-digit million euro figure. Serial turret deliveries are expected in 2027 and 2028, with a prototype anticipated by late 2026.
Moreover, Austria has placed an order for 36 Skyranger 30 systems, marking it as the first customer for this product. Other NATO and EU member states have either begun procurement processes or are planning to acquire this system.
In the Honeywell collaboration, Rheinmetall and Honeywell plan to innovate new visual systems by utilizing the Honeywell 360 Display's existing capabilities, which include thermal imaging and daylight cameras. They also aim to develop auxiliary power units for tactical wheeled and tracked vehicles.
The strategic cooperation will further explore joint efforts in localized maintenance and support for Honeywell products on strategic platforms used by the Bundeswehr. Moreover, the companies are discussing enhanced cooperation in counter-unmanned aircraft systems and electronic warfare capabilities.
In the stock market, Rheinmetall shares in Germany were down 1.78% at 473.70 euros.
