Retail sales in Australia grew by a seasonally adjusted 0.7 percent in August, reaching AUD 36.474 billion, as reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday. This increase surpassed the projected 0.4 percent rise and followed an upwardly revised 0.1 percent gain in July, initially reported as flat.
Year-over-year, retail sales increased by 3.1 percent.
Sector-wise, there were sales upticks in food, clothing, department stores, other retailing, as well as cafes and restaurants. However, household goods sales faced a decline.
