In August, Australia recorded a seasonally adjusted merchandise trade surplus of A$5.644 billion, as reported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday. This figure surpassed the expected surplus of A$5.510 billion and showed an increase from July's revised surplus of A$5.636 billion (initially reported as A$5.009 billion).
In terms of exports, there was a slight decrease of 0.2 percent, bringing the total to A$43.227 billion. This followed a downward revision in the previous month, which showed a 0.3 percent increase from the initially reported 0.7 percent. Imports also experienced a 0.2 percent decline, amounting to A$37.582 billion, after a previously upwardly revised 0.6 percent decrease from the original figure of -0.8 percent.
