Investors processed the minutes from the Federal Reserve’s latest monetary policy meeting and anticipated Thursday's upcoming U.S. consumer price inflation data.
The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index rose by 152.39 points, or 0.63%, concluding at 24,224.90, just shy of its all-time peak of 24,230.05.
Noteworthy performers included Celestica Inc., which increased by 4.75%, and West Fraser Timber, which rose by 4.65%. Calian Group showed a strong performance with a 3.6% climb.
Other notable gainers comprised FirstService Corporation, Descartes Systems Group, Dayforce, Toromont Industries, WSP Global, and Kinaxis Inc., each appreciating between 2% to 3%.
Additionally, CGI Inc., Colliers International, Waste Connections, Shopify Inc., Constellation Software, and George Weston saw improvements ranging from 1.2% to 1.7%.
Fairfax Financial Holdings, Rogers Communications, Aritzia Inc., Cameco Corporation, Ag Growth International, and Tourmaline Oil Corp also closed with significant gains.
Contrarily, Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. slipped by 0.8% following Japan's Seven & i Holdings receiving a revised takeover bid of approximately $47 billion, up from an earlier $38.5 billion offer.
In corporate news, Canopy Growth Corporation announced the completion of Canopy USA's acquisition of Wana, granting it full ownership of Wana Wellness, The CIMA Group, and Mountain High Products. Despite the announcement, the stock declined by 0.7%.
