Costco Wholesale Corp. (COST) has announced a 6.7% rise in its overall comparable sales for September, covering the five weeks ending October 6, 2024. Specifically, U.S. sales saw a 6.5% increase, Canadian sales climbed 5.7%, and sales in other international markets grew by 8.5%. E-commerce experienced a significant 22.9% growth.
Excluding the effects from fluctuating gasoline prices and foreign currency exchange, the total comparable sales for the month rose by 8.9%.
For the month, Costco's net sales reached $24.62 billion, marking a 9.0% increase from the $22.59 billion reported in the same period the previous year.
The company noted that this September's total and comparable sales were positively impacted, with U.S. sales benefiting approximately 2% and global sales about 1.5%. This increase was due in part to heightened consumer activity in the final week of the month, spurred by disruptions such as Hurricane Helene and port strikes.
