RTX Corp. (RTX) announced on Tuesday that it has secured two substantial contracts, totaling $267 million, under the Javelin Joint Venture for the production of Lightweight Command Launch Units, awarded by the U.S. Army.
These contracts are designed to enhance the defense capabilities of the U.S. Army and include provisions for Foreign Military Sales to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
Manufacturing is slated to commence in Tucson, with project completion targeted for 2026 and 2028.
The Javelin LWCLU boasts a 30 percent reduction in size and weight, along with a two-fold improvement in target detection and recognition compared to the current Block I Command Launch Unit.
The Javelin is a collaborative effort, developed and manufactured through the Javelin Joint Venture between Raytheon's facility in Tucson, Arizona, and Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Florida.
To date, the partnership has successfully produced over 50,000 Javelin missiles and more than 12,000 re-usable Command Launch Units.
