GM Ventures Invests $10 Mln Investment In Forge Nano

GM Ventures, the investment division of General Motors, has unveiled a $10 million investment in the company Forge Nano.

Additionally, GM and Forge Nano have entered a strategic partnership to explore potential applications of atomic layer deposition for GM's battery technologies.

General Motors aims to leverage Forge Nano's Atomic Armor surface engineering platform to enhance battery cathode materials.

Atomic layer deposition is a technique in surface engineering that applies ultra-thin film coatings to battery materials, allowing precise control over their chemistry and structure at the atomic level.

Forge Nano, utilizing its Atomic Armor technology, will work on developing these ultra-thin film coatings specifically for GM, focusing on improving battery performance and reducing costs. Furthermore, Forge Nano plans to construct prototype lithium-ion battery cells at its Thornton, Colorado facility to demonstrate the capabilities of this technology.

"GM Ventures is dedicated to integrating disruptive technologies within the GM ecosystem to advance products and processes," stated Anirvan Coomer, managing director of GM Ventures. "Forge Nano's Atomic Armor technology holds transformative potential for our battery materials. They have already shown an ability to enhance cathode capacities, the most costly part of a battery cell, potentially delivering advantages for both customers and the business."
