Japan Tertiary Activity Index Falls 1.1%

In a report released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry on Thursday, it was revealed that Japan's tertiary activity index experienced a decline in August following a robust performance the previous month. The seasonally adjusted index saw a month-on-month decrease of 1.1 percent in August, negating the 2.2 percent gain observed in July.

When examining the specific sectors, there were declines observed in medical, health care and welfare, transport and postal activities, information and communications, services related to living and recreation, wholesale trade, business-related services, retail trade, goods rental and leasing, as well as utilities. On a more positive note, the finance and insurance sectors bucked the trend, posting a growth of 1.8 percent.
