Walmart Launches Nationwide Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery

Walmart, a leading U.S. retailer, has announced an expansion of its services to include the delivery of prescription medicines and refills, integrated with grocery and other order deliveries, promising a swift 30-minute delivery timeframe.

This innovative service is already operational in six states: Arkansas, Missouri, New York, Nevada, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. By the close of January 2025, Walmart aims to extend Pharmacy Delivery across 49 states. This service encompasses both new prescriptions and medication refills, signifying a pivotal advancement in Walmart's healthcare offerings.

The announcement follows closely on the heels of Amazon's revelation to establish pharmacies with same-day delivery in 20 new U.S. cities by 2025, intensifying the competition in the healthcare delivery market.

Operating 4,600 pharmacies and 3,000 vision centers nationwide, Walmart is offering free pharmacy delivery to its Walmart Plus members, who pay a $98 annual fee. Non-members can also access this service for a fee of $9.95.

Tom Ward, Walmart U.S.'s Executive Vice President and Chief eCommerce Officer, emphasized, "Our mission is to cater to every need our customers have. By amalgamating Pharmacy Delivery into a single order, we enhance our commitment to providing comprehensive solutions whenever and wherever needed. If you're unwell, we bring everything to your doorstep from essential medications to comfort items like cough drops, a heating pad, a blanket, and even orange juice. Walmart's vast scale, abundant resources, and domain expertise distinguish us from other retailers."
