Arm Holdings Plc (ARM) is terminating a license agreement that allowed long-term partner Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) to utilize Arm's intellectual property in chip design, escalating a legal conflict concerning essential smartphone technology, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The report states that Arm has issued Qualcomm a mandatory 60-day notice to terminate their architectural license agreement. This contract had enabled Qualcomm to design its own chips utilizing standards owned by Arm.
This dispute has the potential to cause significant disruptions in the smartphone and personal computer markets and could have financial and operational implications for both companies within the semiconductor industry.
