In the third quarter of 2024, consumer prices in Australia rose by a seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent on a quarterly basis, according to data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday. This increase fell short of the anticipated 0.3 percent rise and marked a decrease from the 1.0 percent growth observed in the previous quarter.
Annually, inflation recorded a rise of 2.8 percent, surpassing the predicted 2.3 percent, yet it declined from the 3.8 percent registered in the second quarter. The trimmed mean increased by 0.8 percent for the quarter and 3.5 percent for the year. Meanwhile, the weighted mean showed a quarterly rise of 0.9 percent and an annual increase of 3.8 percent.
