Microsoft (MSFT) is set to release new AI-driven functionalities for Notepad and Paint available to Windows 11 Insiders through the Canary and Dev Channels. These updates aim to enrich the Windows 11 experience by incorporating artificial intelligence into familiar applications.
In Notepad, the introduction of a new Rewrite tool empowers users with the ability to rephrase sentences, adjust tone, and alter text length using AI. According to Dave Grochocki, Product Manager of the Windows Inbox Apps group, this feature allows users to fine-tune their text: "You can rephrase sentences, adjust the tone, and modify the length of your content based on your preferences to refine your text. Options to make your content longer or shorter and modify the tone or format let you easily adjust your content for specific goals." To utilize this tool, users can either right-click in the menu or use the Ctrl+I keyboard shortcut after selecting the desired text. The AI-generated suggestions will subsequently appear in a dedicated box.
Concurrently, Microsoft is implementing two new AI functionalities in the Paint app, namely Generative Fill and Generative Erase. Grochocki elaborates, "With Generative Fill, you can make edits and additions with just a few words while maintaining the existing art style of your project." Additionally, "We are also introducing Generative Erase, a new AI-powered tool that helps you remove unwanted objects from the canvas, filling in the empty space left behind to make it look like the object was never there."
These innovative enhancements to Notepad and Paint are designed to significantly elevate the user experience, offering more intuitive and versatile editing capabilities.
