Italy Industrial Production Falls

Italy experienced a decline in industrial production during September, according to recent data released by ISTAT, the nation's statistical office. The report, published on Friday, indicates a 0.4 percent contraction in industrial output from the previous month, aligning with market expectations. This follows a period of stagnation observed in August.

Breaking down the figures, capital goods production showed a positive trend, rising by 1.8 percent, while intermediate goods production saw a 1.9 percent increase. Conversely, the production of consumer goods fell by 2.5 percent, and energy output decreased by 3.8 percent.

On an annual basis, the reduction in industrial production became more pronounced, reaching an adjusted 4.0 percent drop compared to a 3.2 percent decline recorded in the previous month. In unadjusted terms, industrial output experienced a 3.9 percent annual decrease, which is, notably, a less severe contraction than the 6.1 percent drop reported in August.
