FDA Grants Reauthorization To Swedish Match's General Snus As Modified Risk Tobacco Product

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the renewal of a risk modification order submitted by Swedish Match USA, Inc., a subsidiary of Philip Morris International Inc., for eight of their General snus products. This approval allows the company to use modified risk claims to reach more adults aged 21 and over who smoke or use traditional tobacco products. The FDA determined that renewing the risk modification order for General snus has the potential to significantly reduce harm and lower the risk of tobacco-related diseases for individual users while positively impacting public health overall. Philip Morris International noted that its affiliates have been granted 13 out of the 16 modified risk tobacco product authorizations issued by the FDA, underscoring their dedication to a future without smoke.
