General Motors (GM) is set to recall 461,839 vehicles due to a transmission issue, as detailed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall pertains to specific models from 2020 to 2022, including the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, among others.
Per the official statement, the "transmission control valve in certain vehicles may be prone to excessive wear over time, leading to a gradual decrease in pressure within the valve. This can result in harsh shifting and, in rare instances, the potential for the rear wheels to experience a brief lock-up."
GM will provide new transmission control module software at no cost through its dealerships. This updated software will monitor the valve's condition and can detect significant wear about 10,000 miles before any wheel lock-up might occur. If excessive wear is detected, the system will restrict the transmission to operate in fifth gear, mitigating the risk of wheel lockup, which can occur when the transmission transitions from eighth gear.
Owners of the affected vehicles can expect to receive notification letters by December 9.
