Romania experienced a slight uptick in economic growth during the third quarter, according to preliminary figures released on Thursday by the national statistical office.
On an unadjusted basis, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) witnessed an annual increase of 1.1 percent during the quarter ending in September, building on a 0.9 percent growth recorded in the previous three-month period.
In contrast, the seasonally adjusted figures revealed a 0.2 percent decline in GDP, after having shown a 0.8 percent increase in the prior quarter.
Quarter-on-quarter, the seasonally adjusted GDP remained unchanged, following a 0.1 percent rise in the second quarter.
"Despite the uptick in activity during the third quarter, the modest year-over-year growth of just 1.1 percent supports our assessment that economic growth will continue to be subdued this year," commented Stefan Posea, an economist at ING.
