The Canadian stock market is showing strong positive momentum this Thursday afternoon. Stocks across technology, energy, industrial, and financial sectors are drawing significant buying interest, indicating a potential robust close to the trading session.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index has increased by 340.82 points, or 1.36%, reaching 25,377.28.
Notable gainers include Celestica Inc., which has surged by 6%, while Canadian Tire Corporation, Bombardier Inc., Cameco Corporation, and Tourmaline Oil Corporation have each seen gains ranging from 4% to 5%.
Other stocks showing positive movement include AtkinsRealis Group, Dayforce, Magna International, Metro Inc., Royal Bank of Canada, Shopify Inc., TFI International, Constellation Software, and West Fraser Timber, with increases of 2% to 3.4%.
Additionally, Precision Drilling Corporation, Stantec Inc., WSP Global, Canadian Pacific Kansas, Canadian National Railway, Imperial Oil, RB Global, ONEX Corporation, and CGI Inc. are also experiencing notable increases.
Conversely, Silvercorp Metals has decreased by nearly 7%. Shares of Aya Gold & Silver, Hut 8 Corp, Dye & Durham, Endeavour Mining, ATS Corporation, BCE Inc., MAG Silver Corp, and Molson Coors Canada have declined between 1.6% and 4%.
Regarding economic indicators, Statistics Canada reports that industrial producer prices in Canada increased by 1.2% in October from the previous month, rebounding from a revised decline of 0.8% in the prior month. Annually, producer prices went up by 1.1% in October, following a revised 1% decrease in the preceding month.
Additionally, the Raw Materials Price Index in Canada rose by 3.8% in October on a monthly basis, recovering from two months of consecutive declines. On a year-over-year basis, the index fell by 2.8%, marking the third consecutive annual decline.
