Disney To Pay $43 Mln To Settle Gender Pay Gap Suit

Walt Disney Co. (DIS) has announced a $43 million settlement regarding a 2019 lawsuit alleging pay discrimination against female employees in comparison to their equally experienced male colleagues.

This lawsuit was initially filed by LaRonda Rasmussen and subsequently gained the support of approximately 9,000 women, who were either current or former employees of the company.

A thorough analysis of the company's human resource data, spanning from April 2015 to December 2022, revealed that female employees were compensated approximately 2 percent less than their male counterparts.

"We have consistently been dedicated to fair employee compensation and have maintained this commitment throughout the case. We are pleased to have reached a resolution," a Disney spokesperson stated in a comment to Reuters.

At present, Disney shares are being traded at $116.05, reflecting a slight increase of 0.04 percent on the New York Stock Exchange.
