French Industrial Output Unexpectedly Falls 0.1%

France's industrial production experienced a decline for the second consecutive month in October, according to data released by the statistical office INSEE on Thursday.

In October, industrial production slipped by 0.1 percent compared to September's decrease of 0.8 percent. This performance fell short of economists' expectations, who had anticipated a 0.3 percent monthly recovery.

Breaking down the figures, manufacturing output remained unchanged, contrasting with the 0.7 percent decrease observed in the previous month. Specifically, the production of food products and beverages declined by 0.5 percent, whereas the output of coke and refined petroleum products saw an increase of 4.8 percent.

Further analysis of the data shows a 2.4 percent contraction in the manufacture of transport equipment, while construction output decreased by 2.9 percent.
