Latvia experienced a notable increase in its foreign trade deficit in October compared to the same period last year, as imports outpaced exports, according to preliminary data released by the statistical office on Tuesday.
The trade deficit expanded to EUR 291.9 million in October, up from EUR 205.3 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. In September, the deficit stood at EUR 264.2 million.
Year-over-year, exports increased by 1.3 percent, while imports saw a more significant rise of 5.8 percent.
On a month-to-month basis, both exports and imports showed robust growth, with exports rising by 10.0 percent and imports by 10.1 percent in October.
