Amazon Web Services (AWS), a branch of Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), announced Tuesday the establishment of its new AWS Mexico (Central) Region, marking a significant expansion in its global infrastructure. AWS has committed to investing over $5 billion in Mexico over the next 15 years.
The presence of AWS data centers in Mexico opens up opportunities for developers, startups, entrepreneurs, and enterprises, as well as government, education, and nonprofit organizations, to utilize these resources for application development and end-user service delivery.
Additionally, AWS introduced a $300,000 AWS InCommunities Fund in Queretaro to support local groups, educational institutions, and organizations in launching new community-oriented projects.
The construction and continued operation of this new AWS Region is projected to contribute approximately $10 billion to Mexico's gross domestic product (GDP) while supporting an average of over 7,000 full-time equivalent jobs annually at external businesses, according to AWS.
With the inclusion of the AWS Mexico (Central) Region, AWS now operates 114 Availability Zones across 36 geographical regions worldwide.
