Sensex, Nifty Modestly Higher Led By PSU Stocks; Financials Drift Lower

Indian stocks saw a modest increase in early trading on Wednesday, rebounding from a four-day decline with encouraging indications of cooling retail inflation within the country.

The S&P BSE Sensex index rose by 262 points, translating to a 0.3% gain, reaching 76,761, while the broader NSE Nifty index climbed by 53 points, or 0.2%, to settle at 23,228.

In the Nifty cohort, companies such as Larsen & Toubro, Coal India, Power Grid Corporation, Maruti Suzuki India, and NTPC witnessed gains ranging from 2% to 4%. In contrast, Shriram Finance, Bajaj Finance, and Bajaj FinServ saw declines of approximately 2%.

L&T Technology Services gained nearly 2% ahead of its anticipated earnings announcement.

Adani Green Energy surged by 4.2% following the commissioning of a 57.2 MW wind power segment at its wind-solar hybrid project in Khavda, Gujarat.

Vodafone Idea experienced a 2.2% rally after partnering with HCLSoftware to enhance its 4G and 5G network capabilities.

Shoppers Stop soared by 6% upon announcing a 42% increase in net profit for Q3.

Allcargo Gati added 2.1%, reporting an 8% growth in December 2024 volumes.

Premier Energies advanced by 1.5% after securing new orders valued at Rs 1,460 crore.

IRFC rose by 1% after being identified as the lowest bidder (L1) to finance Rs 3,167 crore for the development of the Banhardih coal block in Jharkhand.

Larsen & Toubro also increased by over 1% following the launch of a second multi-purpose vessel for the Indian Navy.
