Japan Household Spending Data Due On Friday

Japan is set to announce December's data for household spending along with the leading and coincident indexes on Friday, marking a relatively quiet day for economic activity in the Asia-Pacific region.

Analysts anticipate a 0.5 percent decline in household spending compared to the previous month, while projecting a year-on-year increase of 0.5 percent. This follows November's data, which showed a 0.4 percent rise in spending month-on-month but a 0.4 percent decrease year-on-year. In the same month, the leading index fell by 1.6 percent and the coincident index decreased by 1.4 percent.

Meanwhile, Malaysia is set to release its industrial production statistics for December. In November, the country experienced a 3.6 percent increase in production year-on-year.

Additionally, Taiwan will publish January's figures for imports, exports, trade balance, and inflation. December's numbers revealed a 30.4 percent year-on-year increase in imports and a 9.2 percent rise in exports, resulting in a trade surplus of $6.08 billion. Consumer prices in Taiwan rose by 0.15 percent month-on-month and 2.1 percent year-on-year.
