In December, household spending in Japan experienced a 2.3% increase from the previous month, reaching 352,633 yen, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on Friday. This figure surpassed the anticipated 0.5% decline, following a 0.4% rise in November. On an annual basis, household spending rose by 2.7%, exceeding predictions of a 0.5% increase, after witnessing a 0.4% decrease in the prior month. Additionally, the average monthly household income was recorded at 1,179,259 yen, marking a 2.9% year-on-year growth.
