Dutch Consumer Confidence Lowest in 1½ Years

The consumer confidence indicator fell to -34 in March 2025 from -32 the previous month, remaining significantly below its two-decade average of -10. This represents the lowest level recorded since October 2023, as consumers have grown increasingly pessimistic about the overall economic outlook. This sentiment reflects a deteriorating view of both the past 12 months (-59 compared to -58) and the forthcoming 12 months (-55 compared to -50). Additionally, opinions regarding household finances have worsened for the past 12 months (-16 compared to -15) and for the year ahead (-6 compared to -5). Concurrently, the economic climate sub-index decreased (-57 compared to -54), consumer willingness to spend diminished (-57 compared to -54), and attitudes towards the appropriateness of making major purchases became more negative (-34 compared to -32).
