In January 2025, retail sales in Argentina surged by 108.2% compared to the same period last year, measured in current prices. This represents a deceleration from the 121.5% growth observed in December, as the nation continues to grapple with high but slowly diminishing inflation. Growth across various retail sectors showed a more tempered pace. For instance, electronics and computers grew by 159.7%, down from 169.3% in December; food halls and restaurants increased by 113.5%, compared to 128.0% previously; bookstores and stationery rose by 91.1%, slightly higher than 89.9%; pharmacies and perfumes expanded by 89.3%, a drop from 124.7%; and clothing, footwear, and leather goods grew by 98.5%, which is lower than the 104.6% growth rate previously recorded. Conversely, the leisure and recreation sector saw an increase to 153.3% from 143.3%, and toys experienced a growth rate of 140.7%, up from 129.4%. When adjusted to constant prices, retail sales rose by 23.4% year-on-year, up from a 16.9% increase in December.
