Passenger car registrations within the European Union decreased by 3.4% year-on-year, totaling 853,670 units in February 2025. This decline follows a 2.6% reduction observed in the preceding month. Germany experienced the most significant drop, with a decrease of 6.4%, closely followed by Italy at 6.2%. In the realm of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), however, registrations notably increased by 23.7%. Over the first two months of the year, the EU saw a 3% decline in car registrations compared to the same period in 2024. Major markets within the bloc witnessed downturns: Italy decreased by 6%, Germany by 4.6%, and France by 3.3%. Conversely, Spain stood out with an 8.4% increase. During this timeframe, new sales of battery-electric cars escalated by 28.4%, reaching a total of 255,489 units and constituting 15.2% of the entire EU market share. Notably, three of the EU's four largest markets, which together represent 64% of all BEV registrations, enjoyed double-digit growth. Specifically, Germany advanced by 41%, Belgium by 38%, and the Netherlands by 25%. In contrast, France experienced a marginal decline in registrations, down by 1.3%.
